Book Review: The Mark

"You are glowing…"

HeyHiHello

Today I shall be reviewing a book titled The Mark by Jen Nadol. It is her debut novel and book #2, which is titled The Vision, will be out September 27,2011, according to goodreads.com

The description of the book:

Cassandra Renfield has always seen the mark—a glow around certain people reminiscent of candlelight. But the one time she mentioned it, it was dismissed as a trick of the light. Until the day she watches a man awash in the mark die. After searching her memories, Cassie realizes she can see a person’s imminent death. Not how or where, only when: today.
Armed with a vague understanding of the light, Cassie begins to explore her “gift,” seeking those marked for death and probing the line between decision and destiny. Though she’s careful to hide her secret—even from her new philosophy-obsessed boyfriend—with each impending death comes the temptation to test fate. But so many questions remain. How does the mark work? Why is she the only one who sees it? And finally, the most important of all: If you know today is someone’s last, should you tell them?
My review:

I wanted to read this book so bad after hearing that it was going to be turned into a TV series. I am not really sure if this is going to happen or not. I just read it in someone's blog.

It was a simple and nice read with a complex thinking involved. Cassie could see a glow around people who are about to die. Interesting enough but the thing is I read a book like that from before. It was Numbers by Rachel Ward, review here. So I thought it was going to be the same story. It was but slightly different. For example, Numbers took place in UK and The Mark took place in US. But I don’t think Jen Nadol knew anything about Numbers. It's just the same concept, but different…

It had some deep thinking which I really like about books. Good books makes you wonder and travel and that what happened with The Mark. The main character, Cassie, takes philosophy class and she starts getting into it. And trust me, I started to get into it too. Also Greek mythology played a huge role in the books. I like Greek mythology too, what a coincidence.

I liked the style of writing and how it kept me going and wanting. I bet the love ship will be crazy in the next book. I can see it.

At the end of the book I was like "ohh", "yea", "obviously, how did I miss that" and "no way."

This book goes in depth of how it would be like if everyone was saved from their death day. They will survive but others will have to die.

Basically, this book was great and it's fine to have a repetitive idea but its better when you turn this repetitive idea with your own voice into another story.

Can't wait for book #2
