Forget Me Not, Squirrel

Hey

Today was a beautiful day. The sun was glowing peacefully in an endless sky. Everything seemed real. Seemed ordinary.  Less people in college now because of less demand. People who are taking summer courses are relaxing outside in the sun. Friends sitting on one bench laughing and chatting, when something disturbing happened, that made all of them jump out of their seats.

What happened?

A squirrel came jumping or it was more like running on the grass because (I think) it needed to stay away from the burning sun. Then, something else appears on the same scene, there were another squirrel surrounding the first squirrel. Helping the first squirrel to get on its feet.

I started getting interested watching the squirrel help its partner. It started pushing it, running around it and looking at humans. Humans who were standing around "the about to die squirrel" doing nothing but watching. The "about to die squirrel" kept twitching its head and its whole body which brought goose bumps to my own body. The "about to die squirrel" kept going on circles. Its partner kept to go to the benches where humans laughed and chatted but they ignored it.

When I was looking at the" about to die squirrel", I concentrated more at the bigger picture.

The picture:
There was an animal in need. On the other side, there were humans who were watching. As if it was a tulips festival. As if it was a healthy animal dancing on the grass. We just stood there and watched, while an animal was struggling to death.

This even created a bigger picture. That’s what all humans do. We watch people and animals struggle everyday and do nothing about it.

I forgot to mention that I was one of those people who watched and did nothing as if it was a "FORGET ME NOT" festival.

Earth Day:Tigers+Poetry

HeyHiHello

April 22 is Earth Day. On Earth day you don’t need to turn off the lights. You just have to think of the beauty of earth. One of the most beautiful things on earth are tigers. That’s why this year I decided to participate in 2010 tiger blogfest. So by now you are probably asking: what is the 2010 tiger blogfest?

"The Tiger Blogfest 2010 is a week in April where bloggers blog about the need to protect our tigers. It is an avenue for the blogging community to contribute towards protecting our national heritage."- planet of the monyets

So I decided to write something special for the tigers and since we are in April (which is well-known for poetry month), I decided to write something for tigers in a poem shape.

**********
The fearless way you look at the enemy
It's like you own the jungle
It's like you are the king of the kingdom
Too bad you are disappearing
Your number is decreasing
Human, whom I consider as your number one enemy, enjoying hunting you down year after year
I sure will miss your orange brownish skin
The way you walk, think and plan your hunt
Kids of the future will be questioning "what is a tiger?" when they read the poem:
"Tiger, Tiger burning bright
In the forest of the night"
As if you own the jungle
As if you are the king of kingdom
You still can't do anything to stop humans from hunting you down year after year
I sure will miss the fearless way you look at your enemy.

So what do you think of my poem? Likes? Dislikes?

Stop Slaughtering Seals

"Every year, the Canadian government allows hundreds of thousands of seals to be massacred. The most common methods for hunters to use are gunshots to the head or smashing the animal's skull."-Peta

How does the hunters benefit from killing seals?

The seal slaughter exists due to the demand of its fur. To avoid harm to the seal's fur, hunters stick the hook in their eyes, cheeks or mouth. Also, its meat taste good. It tastes like sushi, according to Governor General Michaƫlle Jean.

Many countries had stopped the slaughter.  US banned any products related to seals in 1972. In 2009, the European Union ended the sale of seal products. Due to thefact that many countries are banning seal's products, the market for seals is not huge as it used to be. "The best seal pelts sold for $100 in 2006. Today they fetch $15 – if a buyer can be found at all." If the seal's product is not bringing much money to the hunters, why do they focus so much on it? Do they do it for fun? Do they enjoy murdering animals for fun?

In my opinion, Canada is ruining its repetition by allowing hunters murdering innocent seals. They kill seals that haven’t even taken their first swim or eaten their first solid meal. If US and the European Union had put an end to this, then Canada should do too. This is the least what we would expect from a country known for its peaceful acts around the world.

Now I shall leave you with a video posted from before, but I just want you to have another look at it.

'Fewer than 50 wild tigers' left in China

On February 14, 2010, China celebrated their new year. It's the tiger year.
In china only 50 wild tigers are remaining. ” The global wild tiger population is estimated to be at an all-time low of 3,200, down from an estimated 20,000 in the 1980s and 100,000 a century ago." We could see the rapid decrease in the last few decades. Should we blame the global warming for that decrease or should we blame the negative actions of human beings towards tigers?

Personally, I think both factors have their effects on the extinction of tigers. As you might have noticed last year the conditions in terms of the weather in China weren’t that good. There were many snow storms and blizzards. It's the kind of weather that China is not used to. Maybe that had an effect on animals in general.

Human begins use tiger bones and related products in international trade. This only explains one thing that tigers were murdered for money. According to this article, China banned the international trade but of course the traders kept on going due to weak law enforcement.

China and 13 other Asian countries pledge to double the number of wild tigers by the year 2022. This seems a normal behavior from human begins. They do wrong and try to fix it by doing pledges and petitions and all that kind of stuff that doesn’t help animals in all shape or form.

It might be the last tiger year where actual tigers do exist.
